DETROIT — The Kansas City Royals probably should be riding a three-game winning streak into Thursday’s series finale against Detroit. Instead, thanks to two blown eighth-inning leads, Kansas City needs a victory just to split the four-game set with the first-place Tigers.

Steve Green, 57, a former superintendent of a New York City sub-school district and most recently the chief executive of the Kauffman Scholars program, accepted the post of interim superintendent of the Kansas City School District and was introduced by the school board Wednesday night.
